BB Coaching Response

What This Does

Crafts coaching responses to BlackBelt members using a 5-step pattern. Pulls relevant trainings from the index, offers interactive selection, and outputs in Ed's voice ready for Facebook comments.

Triggers

  • Direct: "Help me reply to [name]..."
  • Session primer: "I'm doing a Facebook sweep" - primes you to use this framework
  • Coaching: "Coach [name] on..."

The 5-Step Pattern

Every coaching response follows this structure:

1. Acknowledge What's Working

Find the wins. Name them specifically. Start positive but grounded.

2. Push Back on Vanity Metrics

Challenge assumptions with data, not opinion. Common pushbacks:

  • LinkedIn impressions ≠ leads
  • Followers ≠ buyers
  • Busy ≠ productive
3. Ask Diagnostic Questions

Get to root cause before prescribing. Questions reveal gaps:

  • "What's your conversion rate from X to Y?"
  • "How many of those turn into conversations?"
  • "What happens after they see the content?"
4. Recommend Specific Training

Don't be vague. Point to a specific resource with the link. Read resources/blackbelt-trainings.md from mission-context skill for the training index.

5. Clear Next Steps

One thing to do now. Not a list of five things. One.

Process

Step 1: Parse the Situation

Read the client's question/comment. Identify:

  • What they're asking about (pipeline, content, offer, mindset, etc.)
  • What's actually working in their business
  • Where the gap likely is
Step 1.5: Fetch Client Context from Basecamp

Before searching for trainings, check if this is an existing BlackBelt client:

  1. Extract client name from the question/comment

  2. Use the bb-call-prep skill's Basecamp lookup pattern:

    • Search people in BlackBelt project by name (fuzzy match)
    • Fetch recent todos (completed + pending)
    • Get message board mentions
  3. If client found, surface:

    • Program stage: (Week X, or post-program)
    • Recent completions: Last 3 todos they marked done
    • Active blockers: Open todos assigned to them
    • Coach notes: Recent mentions in message threads
  4. If not found → continue without (they may be new or using different name)

Why this helps: Your response can reference their actual journey instead of generic advice.

Example context output:

## Client Context: Sarah Johnson
- **Stage:** Week 6 of BlackBelt
- **Recent completions:** Magic Model (01-10), Offer Diamond (01-08)
- **Active:** Working on sales page copy
- **Notes:** Mentioned on Message Board Jan 12 - "great progress on niche clarity"
Step 2: Search for Relevant Trainings

Read the BlackBelt training index from mission-context: /Users/eddale/Documents/GitHub/powerhouse-lab/.claude/skills/mission-context/resources/blackbelt-trainings.md

Find 3-5 trainings relevant to their situation.

Step 3: Present Training Options (Interactive)

Use AskUserQuestion to let Ed choose which training(s) to recommend:

I found these relevant trainings for [topic]:

| Training | Why It Fits |
|----------|-------------|
| [Training 1] | [Brief reason] |
| [Training 2] | [Brief reason] |
| [Training 3] | [Brief reason] |

Which would you like to recommend?

Options should include:

  • Each training as a selectable option
  • "Let me suggest my own" option
Step 4: Draft the Response

Write the coaching response using the 5-step pattern.

When Basecamp context is available, weave it in naturally:

  • Reference their recent progress: "Nice work finishing the Offer Diamond last week..."
  • Acknowledge their stage: "At this point in the program, the focus should be..."
  • Connect to their specific blockers if relevant
  • Use their actual data, not generic benchmarks when possible

Output format: Facebook Comment (default)

  • Conversational, no headers, no bullets, no numbered lists
  • Within 8,000 characters / 100 line break limits
  • Flows like Ed typing a genuine response
  • CRITICAL: No hard line breaks mid-paragraph. Let text flow naturally. Only break between paragraphs. This ensures clean copy/paste into Facebook.
  • Present as plain text (not in a code block) so it copies cleanly
Step 5: Run Through AI Slop Detector

Before presenting the final response, invoke the ai-slop-detector skill.

The workflow:

  1. Draft the response
  2. Invoke ai-slop-detector
  3. Copy to clipboard (cleaned)
  4. Present the cleaned version to Ed
Step 6: Copy to Clipboard (Auto)

After generating the final response, automatically copy it to Ed's clipboard with line breaks cleaned:

echo "YOUR_RESPONSE_HERE" | sed 's/$/SINGLENEWLINE/' | tr '\n' ' ' | sed 's/SINGLENEWLINE SINGLENEWLINE/\n\n/g' | sed 's/SINGLENEWLINE/ /g' | sed 's/ */ /g' | pbcopy

This preserves paragraph breaks (double newlines) while removing hard line breaks within paragraphs.

Tell Ed: "Response copied to clipboard (cleaned for Facebook)"

Voice Guidelines

Write as Ed, not about coaching. The response should sound like Ed typed it in a Facebook comment.

Use:

  • Short, clean sentences
  • Compassionate amusement
  • Calm authority
  • Practical, specific suggestions

Avoid:

  • Em dashes (use commas or periods)
  • Headers or bullet points in the output
  • Lecturing tone
  • Vague "you should try..." language
  • Comparison to other coaches

Key Metrics to Reference

When pushing back on numbers, use these benchmarks:

Metric Benchmark Source
Sell-by-chat close rate 30 chat starts → 1 booked call Pipeline training
Content engagement Impressions ≠ leads General principle
LinkedIn DM response ~10-20% is normal Matt Lakajev training

Example Output Tone

This shows the TONE and FLOW, not a template:

Good to see you getting traction here. The 1,200 impressions show people are seeing your stuff and the engagement rate looks healthy for LinkedIn.

The part I want to push on is what happens after the impression. 1,200 impressions with 2 DMs means something in the conversion path needs work. Either the content isn't prompting action or the CTA is buried. What does your last week of posts look like in terms of direct asks versus value-only content?

The other number that jumped out: 30 chat starts to 1 booked call is roughly the benchmark for sell by chat. If you're at 20 chats and zero calls, we need to look at the chat scripts themselves.

Worth going back through the Lead on LinkedIn training with Matt Lakajev. Specifically the section on DM sequences. Link: [training link]

For this week: pick your top 3 performing posts from the last month and add a clear "DM me X" CTA to each. Track what changes.
